PodCampNYC's happening soon! What should I do to make the most of it?

  • Download maps, transit schedules, and the session guide in advance to your laptop or phone (find them here)

  • Plan your time for attending sessions and your time for being social (and plan plenty of time for both!)

  • Charge up all your gear (and don't forget to pack the chargers)

  • Pack plenty of business cards -- last-minute options are to print your own from office-supply-store stock or to carry blank cards for on-the-spot notes

  • Read through the list of registrants to see which friends you'll meet again and who you will meet for the first time

  • Add the info you're willing to share on the wiki, such as a written-out email address -- pcnyc(at)gmail(dot)com -- and your twitter ID, so the folks you meet at PodCampNYC can easily find you

  • Take some time to check out the blogs and podcasts of both speakers and attendees to give you some topics for social-time talk

  • Be prepared to hold conversations in the hallways, so wear comfortable shoes

  • Remember that at podcamp, everyone has something to learn, and everyone has something to say. Practice saying "hello," and be ready to listen, too!

A question came in asking about some of the "geeky" terms we use, so everyone can understand. The best source for this is Lee Lefever's The Common Craft Show, a short video podcast that explains Geek in plain english including the following topics and links below. If some of the terms like RSS, Twitter, Blogs, Wikis or the like are a bit scary, these explanations should help.
